Steve was first licensed in 1976 as WB9YJI while an Electrical Engineering student at the University of Illinois. His operating interests include HF, VHF/UHF, digital modes, satellite operations and voice. He is a member of the Mountain Amateur Radio Club where he also serves as a VE, as well as the Pikes Peak Radio Amateur Association, PPFMA, Pikes Peak ARES, AMSAT, and QCWA.  When not on the air, Steve enjoys running, backpacking, hiking, playing baseball and hanging out with his wife Kathy and two daughters, Alli (16) and Kaela (11).

He is the Business Area Manager for Signal Monitoring at RT Logic, a signal processing systems company for the space and military communications industry.  He was co-founder and vice-president, then CEO of precisionWave Corporation, a Colorado Springs test and measurement instrumentation company.  Steve's career has included a number of R&D, technical and management positions at Hewlett-Packard, Agilent Technologies and Decision-Science Applications. He holds a patent in the field of microprocessor emulation systems. Steve is an ordained Elder and Trustee at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, where he also teaches in the High School department and is the Assistant Director of the Sanctuary Choir.

Steve serves on the Colorado Section Cabinet as the point man for activities concerning planning and holding an ARRL full-blown convention in Colorado.  In this capacity he also serves as the Chairman of HAMCON Colorado, the organization created as a non-profit associated group for the sole purpose of planning and hosting the Rocky Mountain Division convention in Colorado every three years.
